At TEDxMuscatWomen 2018, these are the speakers who will talk about the relevance of ‘showing up’ 

Balqees Fathi

An Emirati singer with three record breaking albums and a certified member of the UAE NSO Symphony Orchestra, Balqees has performed in the opera houses of Muscat and  Cairo, Al Majaz Amphitheatre in Sharjah and in the Sound and Light Show in the pyramids of Giza. She earned the L’Officiel Middle East Arab Woman of the Year Award for Young Talent 2012, along with Best Young Talent award based on Al Sada and Zahrat Al Khaleej magazines’ surveys. She was given the title of UN Champion for Women Rights in the Middle East in 2016. She was chosen by Al Rahbani’s in 2016 for a starring role in their play Al Faris. She also performed with Andrea Bocelli in his concert in Abu Dhabi in April the same year. Balqees has been the media face of premium international brands like Pantene Hair Products, Coca Cola, Zain Telecom, Lazurdeh Jewellery and Pampers.

Abigail Blom

Accomplished horse rider, full-time influencer, entrepreneur and mother,  Abigail gives 100 per cent to everything she does and more. Having spent the best part of a decade in the Middle East, Abby now calls the UAE home. Her passion for horses and connecting the equestrian community has resulted in the UAE’s first and only online digital magazine – The Show Hub. Now in its third year, each edition is packed full of information, images and competition results from across the region, highlighting the successes of both humans and equines.

Abigail also rides at a high level and has performed in world-class horse displays, most notably at the opening ceremony of the Meydan World Cup 2011 and the Education for Borders Conference at the Burj Khalifa.

Dr Samar Baqer

Dr Samar Baqer is a Fulbright scholar who is currently working as an assistant professor of marketing at the College of Business Administration in Kuwait University.

Besides her academic work, Samar is a public speaker, consultant and coach.

She worked for the Ministry of Planning in a couple of projects. Moreover, she worked as an advisor for the executive chairman of Kuwait National Fund for SME Development from 2014 to 2016. Also, she served as a consultant and member of the founding board of KFAS Academy, a newly established non-for-profit company under the umbrella of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. Samar volunteers in programmes and events that are encouraging and supporting youth and entrepreneurs in the region such as The Proteges and the Fikra Program.

Zeta Yarwood

Zeta Yarwood is an award-winning career coach and trainer based in Dubai. Considered one of the leading coaches in the Middle East, she has been featured in over 20 publications worldwide, and has sat on panels for TimeOut Dubai, Mums@Work, London Business School and Dubai Lynx.

With her degree in psychology, NLP qualification and over ten years’ experience in coaching, management and recruitment, Zeta understands the foundations of success and happiness. She now works with businesses across the Middle East to increase employee motivation, engagement and performance. With a genuine desire to help women ‘step up’ and have the careers they want, Zeta has partnered with multinational companies such as Credit Suisse, WSP and Engie to support their ‘Women in Business’ initiatives.

Nada Al Ahdal

Nada al Ahdal is a human rights activist against child marriage. It started  when she refused to be a victim of child marriage at the age of ten. Nada posted a video on YouTube and it went viral on social media; in three days it had 8mn views and then translated into more than 40 languages and became the talk of the international media which prompted a French publishing house to write a book of her story and publish it in several languages. Nada also started a foundation to defend and care about children along with girls’ rights and their education.

Amal Al Zadjali 

A specialist in media communications, Amal al Zadjali was appointed as senior communications, external liaison and  CSR specialist by the Authority for Electricity Regulation. Apart from her day job, Amal is a member of the Omani Women’s Association and is a strong believer of women’s empowerment. Amal is a social activist who started a children’s safety campaign in 2008 and was nominated as a road safety champion by the Globe Road Safety Partnership in Geneva in 2010 for a children’s safety campaign called ‘Awladna’.

Sheikha Al JaSsasi  

Sheikha al Jassasi was born visually impaired but managed to turn her disability into abilities. She is the first visually impaired graduate to hold a BA in translation from Sultan Qaboos University. She also holds an MBA from University of Bedfordshire. Sheikha was a member in the board of Al Noor Association for the Blind where she headed the women’s committee for two years. She was nominated and elected as a Middle East representative in the Asian Blind Union's executive committee for four years. She now works as a translator and media specialist at the Information Technology Authority.

Shereen Mitwali

Egyptian-Australian Shereen Mitwali is a certified life and  communications coach/educator and NLP practitioner.  Based in Dubai, she was formally trained in television broadcasting and live presenting in the Sydney Academy of Film & Television and the prestigious New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. She has presented and spoken in front of more than 100,000 people. Some of the famous personalities Shereen has interviewed are Richard Branson, Jack Ma, Lewis Hamilton, Chris Gardner and Gigi Hadid just to name a few. Shereen is also the founder of www.personal ityandcareertest.com developed to help clients make better career choices and provide direction in addition to The Global Mentorship Program - a platform that provides online group mentoring sessions with an array of mentors.

Maimuna Al Sulaimani  

Maimuna al Sulaimani is an Omani lawyer licensed with the Supreme Court of Oman. Maimuna is the first Omani legal advisor to be appointed as a  leader in the private sector to head a legal department. In addition, Maimuna is the first Omani lawyer to be listed as a top legal advisor on UK‘s prestigious Legal 500 and among Top 100 legal advisers in the Middle East. She is also the first Omani lecturer to teach law at Sultan Qaboos University since 2004 .She is the editor and presenter of an Arabic television show called Rights Reserved and a radio programme in English on Oman Radio. She holds a position on the editorial board of Black&white and Law & Life magazine
