Muscat – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has opened registration for the fourth edition of the Tawasul Youth Short Film Award, aimed at supporting Omani filmmakers and encouraging cinematic creativity among young people.
The award seeks to promote meaningful community dialogue through short films that explore issues relevant to individuals and society. Themes focus on the individual’s relationship with themselves, their community and surrounding environment, as well as society’s connection with the wider human community.
Hilal bin Saif Al Siyabi, Director General of the Directorate General of Youth at the ministry, said the award continues its successful journey in its fourth edition in 2026, strengthening its role in discovering young talent and developing their filmmaking capabilities.
He said the initiative reflects the ministry’s continued support for youth creativity and aims to enhance the presence of national talents in the film industry, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 to build a knowledge-based society that preserves its identity while embracing technological advancement.
Al Siyabi noted that the award has seen notable growth in participation in recent years, along with improved quality and diversity of submitted works, reflecting the growing interest of Omani youth in producing meaningful cinematic content.
The award accepts all types of short films, including fiction, documentary, 3D animation and digital productions. Participation is limited to Omani nationals, and the film crew must also be Omani, except in limited cases where non-Omanis may be involved if necessary.
Submitted films must not have been previously broadcast on social media or online platforms and should adhere to professional standards without offensive or inappropriate content. The use of artificial intelligence technologies in film production is not permitted.
Films produced in 2025 and 2026 are eligible, provided they have not participated in previous editions. The duration of films may range from one to 45 minutes.
The deadline for entries is October 1, 2026, through the registration form available on the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth’s website.
