Barka – A creative initiative called ‘Artasim’ in Barka is redefining the role of art in the community – merging creativity with education, therapy and entertainment in a safe, inclusive space open to all.

Born out of the emotional challenges that followed the COVID-19 pandemic, Artasim was conceived as a response to people’s need for self-expression and connection.

Its founder, Siham bint Khalfan al Darmaki, turned her vision into reality after earning a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Sultan Qaboos University in 2021.

Artasim now operates as an art studio offering a range of educational, training and recreational workshops in visual arts. Its mission extends beyond creativity, aiming to make art accessible to everyone, especially those with special needs or psychological and neurological conditions such as autism and depression.

Participants in these programmes receive tailored support in an environment designed to nurture self-expression, boost confidence and aid emotional healing through art.

Speaking about her vision, Siham said, “The Artasim studio aspires to become the foundation for Oman’s first specialised art therapy centre. It combines education, recreation and therapy, contributing to mental well-being through creative expression.”
