Muscat – Omani brothers Abdullah and Mohammed al Farsi added to their growing list of international achievements by securing two medals in the third round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Abu Dhabi, held from May 2 to 4.

Competing in the professional categories, Mohammed won gold in the purple belt division, while Abdullah claimed silver in the black belt division. The latest victories bring their combined medal count to 198 – 147 for Abdullah and 51 for Mohammed.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Abdullah said, “These victories are not just medals; they are strong steps towards putting Oman firmly on the global jiu-jitsu map and strengthening our standing in international martial arts competitions.”

He noted that the championship had broader significance beyond the sport. “The tournament reflects the values of social cohesion, instils a sporting culture in society, and contributes to building strong generations grounded in self-confidence, belonging, and responsibility.”

Abdullah described the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship as “a well-structured tournament with a competitive ranking system that supports the development of athletes.”

Acknowledging the tough competition, he added, “We were well-prepared. Despite the high level of competition, we overcame it with patience and willpower.”

He said such results have wider national impact. “These successes inspire young athletes, boost national confidence, and encourage more players to pursue international careers. They also enhance the reputation of Omani jiu-jitsu schools.”

The event attracted strong attendance from families and fans, underlining its status as a key sporting and cultural platform. “We will continue to promote this sport among youth and society, and remain committed to participating in international championships to raise the sultanate’s flag high,” Abdullah said.
