Duqm-Haima pipeline and renewable energy desalination plants mark leap towards water security
Duqm – A series of strategic water infrastructure projects were inaugurated in Al Wusta Governorate on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in advancing water security and renewable energy integration in the region.
The centrepiece is the Duqm-Haima Water Supply System, a 211km pipeline project executed by Nama Water Services at a cost exceeding RO 24 million. Designed to meet the growing demand for potable water, the project ensures a more sustainable and reliable supply across the governorate.
The inauguration was held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Musallam Al Kathiri, Governor of Al Wusta.
The project features four key pumping stations:
Aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the national carbon neutrality goals, several renewable energy-powered desalination plants were also launched. These initiatives leverage solar and wind energy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels in water production.
