ROP clarifies exemption from fines for expats and employers

6 May 2025

Muscat – The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a clarification regarding the recent discussions on exemptions from fines and financial obligations imposed on individuals and employers.

According to the ROP, the exemption is strictly limited to the categories outlined in the Ministry of Labour’s announcement concerning the rectification of legal status and settlement of fines.

Under the directive:

  • Foreigners renewing their residency or transferring employment within Oman are exempt from all fines related to expired visas and residency cards, provided their status is verified and corrected through the Ministry of Labour.
  • Foreigners wishing to leave Oman permanently will be exempted from all fines associated with the termination of non-work-related visas.

The ROP has confirmed that all relevant technical systems have been updated to streamline the process and urged eligible individuals and employers to take advantage of the amnesty period, which remains in effect until July 31, 2025.
