Muscat – Oman has successfully mediated a ceasefire agreement between the United States and the authorities in Sana’a, Yemen, aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.

In a statement on Tuesday, Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al Busaidi said the agreement follows recent discussions and contacts between the Sultanate, the US and relevant Yemeni authorities. “In the future, neither side will target the other, including American vessels, in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, ensuring freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of international commercial shipping,” he stated.

Oman expressed its appreciation to both parties “for their constructive approach that led to this welcome outcome”, voicing hope that the agreement would pave the way for further progress on regional issues and contribute to “justice, peace, and prosperity for all”.
