Algiers, Algeria – An official reception ceremony was held for His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik at El Mouradia Presidential Palace in Algiers, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Monday on the occasion of his state visit to Algeria.
This was followed by a bilateral meeting and an official session of talks exploring opportunities for economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Prior to these official engagements, His Majesty the Sultan visited the Memorial of the Martyr – Maqam E’chahid – and the National Museum of Moudjahid in Algiers.
Joint communiqué
At the conclusion of the state visit, a joint communiqué hailed the establishment of the Oman-Algeria Investment Fund aimed at financing joint projects and diversifying economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders described their talks as constructive, reflecting the deep historical and cultural ties between Oman and Algeria. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
They noted significant progress since President Tebboune’s visit to Muscat in October 2024.
The two leaders called for faster implementation of ongoing discussions in areas such as automotive manufacturing and labour cooperation.
Efforts to boost trade volumes and economic exchanges were discussed, with both sides encouraging greater engagement between public and private sector stakeholders. They referred to the outcomes of a business forum held in Algiers last June and Oman’s upcoming participation as guest of honour at the 56th Algiers International Fair in June 2025. Algeria is also set to be the guest of honour at the Oman AgroFood Exhibition in December 2025.
Several agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed during the visit, covering sectors such as investment, justice, fisheries, labour, energy and legal affairs.
The two leaders praised the role of the Algerian community in Oman in strengthening people-to-people ties. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments, underscoring the need for greater coordination within the Arab League to confront common challenges.
Addressing the ongoing war in Gaza, the leaders issued a joint condemnation of Israel’s military campaign calling it a genocidal war responsible for unprecedented humanitarian devastation. They urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to push for an immediate ceasefire and a just resolution based on a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital.
At the end of the visit, His Majesty the Sultan thanked President Tebboune and the Algerian people for their warm hospitality and wished Algeria continued prosperity.
