Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman has welcomed the decision of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to establish the position of Vice President of the Executive Committee and Vice President of the State of Palestine, and to appoint Hussein al Sheikh to the role.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the Sultanate congratulated Hussein al Sheikh on his new duties and wished him every success in carrying out his responsibilities.

Oman expressed its hope that this important development would contribute to strengthening Palestinian unity and supporting the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the attainment of all their rights and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
