Muscat – The Earthquake Monitoring Centre at Sultan Qaboos University reported a moderate earthquake in the Wilayat of Shaleem and the Hallaniyat Islands in Dhofar Governorate on Sunday afternoon at 2.32pm local time.

The tremor, measured 5.0 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located approximately 155km northeast of Salalah, at a shallow depth.

The event was detected by 19 Omani monitoring stations. Authorities confirmed that no damage or injuries have been reported. The Earthquake Monitoring Centre continues to monitor seismic activity across the Sultanate and encourages the public to rely on official sources for updates.
