Moscow, Russia – Oman Post released a joint postage stamp on Tuesday in collaboration with Russian Post to celebrate the enduring historical ties between the two nations.
This came within the context of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to Russia and aims to strengthen cooperation and expand partnership opportunities in areas of mutual interest.
The stamp features a distinctive artistic design to mark four decades of diplomatic relations between Oman and Russia. The stamp highlights the robust economic and cultural bonds between the two countries, symbolising friendship and mutual understanding.
The stamp’s design draws inspiration from the shared maritime heritage of both nations, depicting two prominent 15th-century figures who had pivotal roles in advancing navigation and geographical knowledge.
Renowned Omani explorer Ahmed bin Majid al Saadi made pioneering contributions to the study of seas and geographic locations, including the Caspian Sea and the city of Derbent.
Merchant and traveller Afanasy Nikitin was the first Russian to visit the Arabian Peninsula. He documented his attendance of an Easter Mass in Muscat, reflecting the religious tolerance and cultural openness for which Oman has been known throughout history.
The joint stamp underscores both nations’ commitment to enhancing cooperation in postal services and related activities, contributing to deeper bilateral relations and opening new avenues for joint collaboration.
