Moscow, Russia – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik thanked President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation for the gracious invitation to visit his country and for the warm welcome and hospitality during their meeting in Moscow on Tuesday.

His Majesty stated that his discussions with the Russian President focused on building solid relations between the two countries. The two nations are now marking 40 years of diplomatic relations and are working to elevate these ties into a distinguished and mutually beneficial partnership that serves the interests of their friendly peoples, His Majesty said.

His Majesty the Sultan praised his meeting with a group of business leaders from the Russian Federation noting their keen interest in advancing cooperation in energy, agriculture and trade.

His Majesty pointed out that many Russian businessmen have begun visiting and establishing commercial offices. He expressed Oman’s aspiration to augment its volume of investments in Russia, with Oman Investment Authority already engaging with relevant Russian entities.

His Majesty extended his gratitude and appreciation to the Russian officials who visited Oman recently and expressed hope that Omani officials would continue their visits to Moscow.

On his turn, President Putin thanked His Majesty for his state visit to Russia. He noted that His Majesty the Sultan made several visits to Russia in his previous official capacity. He added that in 1985, His Majesty signed an agreement establishing diplomatic relations between the two friendly nations. This year, Oman and Russia celebrate the 40th anniversary of these relations.

President Putin added that the two nations share a robust historical relationship and a record of sustained engagement referring to the finalisation of several agreements that will further strengthen the legal foundation of bilateral relations.

He highlighted the significant potential for expanding trade relations, particularly in mutual investments, transit, transportation and agriculture, especially as Russia exports agricultural and food products to Oman.

He underlined the interest of Russian companies in boosting energy cooperation with Oman during talks earlier in the day.

President Putin also underscored the close coordination between the foreign ministries of both countries and noted that Russia is gearing up to host the first Russian-Arab Summit, which he said enjoys broad support in the Arab world.
