Srinagar, India – At least 28 people have been killed, including foreign tourists, after terrorists struck a prime tourist location of Pahalgam in South Kashmir in India on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, government sources told The Hindu newspaper.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah though said the death toll is still being ascertained, and will be announced officially later. “This attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,” he said on X.

Condemning the terror attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that those behind the heinous act will be brought to justice. PM Modi held a telephonic conversation with Home Minister Amit Shah following the terrorist attack, and directed him to take all necessary measures in response to the incident. Shah has left for Srinagar to hold an urgent security review meeting with all the agencies.
