Rome, Italy – The Italian government has confirmed that Rome will host the next round of negotiations between Iran and the United States, scheduled for Saturday, April 19, with Oman acting as mediator.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking from Osaka, stated, “We received the request from the interested parties, including Oman, and we gave a positive response. Rome confirms itself as a capital of peace and mediation.”
He added, “We are always ready to welcome meetings that can produce positive outcomes, particularly regarding the nuclear issue.”
Iranian MP Majid Takht-Ravanchi, quoted by Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, revealed that the first round of discussions took place indirectly in Muscat, at the Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al Busaidi’s residence. Takht-Ravanchi said, “In the next round, we will define the framework of the negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme. The Americans must provide guarantees regarding the lifting of sanctions.”
He stressed that Iran will not tolerate threats, stating, “We will retaliate if threatened.”
