Call for ceasefire and humanitarian aid as UAE stresses support for Palestinian people
Abu Dhabi, UAE – H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, received Gideon Sa’ar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, in Abu Dhabi on Monday to discuss growing bilateral relations and pressing regional developments.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Both sides explored regional and international efforts to re-establish a truce, achieve a ceasefire, and secure the release of hostages.
Sheikh Abdullah underscored the urgent priority of halting the conflict and avoiding further escalation. He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at protecting civilians and improving the humanitarian response in Gaza.
Highlighting the worsening conditions for civilians, Sheikh Abdullah called for safe, sustainable, and unobstructed access to humanitarian aid. He reaffirmed the UAE’s historical and steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination, noting that the country would continue to extend humanitarian assistance to meet urgent needs.
He also stressed the importance of advancing a serious political process towards a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. The UAE Foreign Minister urged the international community to intensify efforts to end extremism, violence and growing tensions in the region.
Sheikh Abdullah further emphasised the need for unified global efforts to promote tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity as foundations for building secure and prosperous societies.
The meeting was attended by Saeed Mubarak al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs, and Mohamed Mahmoud al Khaja, UAE Ambassador to the State of Israel.
