Nakhal – South Batinah Municipality has launched an initiative called ‘Preserve Grace’ in collaboration with Nakhal Zakat Committee to curb food waste under the slogan ‘Share it, don’t throw it away’.

Implemented in partnership with Iffa Voluntary Group, Preserve Grace aims to collect surplus food from households, restaurants and events for distribution among underprivileged families and expats workers in Nakhal.

As part of the initiative, collection points have been set up at key locations across Nakhal to facilitate food donations. Volunteers of Iffa Voluntary Group oversee sorting and safe distribution of collected food, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

The initiative underscores the values of solidarity and social responsibility, ensuring that edible food does not go waste but instead benefits those in need.

In a statement, South Batinah Municipality emphasised the importance of community participation, urging residents, businesses and charitable organisations to contribute. ‘Preserve Grace is a step towards fostering a culture of mindful consumption, reducing excess food disposal and reinforcing humanitarian efforts within the community.’

The civic body also announced plans for awareness workshops and educational programmes in schools and public spaces to highlight the environmental and economic impact of food waste.

The initiative is expected to expand to other governorates in the future, reinforcing Oman’s broader efforts towards sustainability and community welfare.
