Muscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has imported more than 428,000 livestock to meet the increased demand for red meat during Ramadan and the upcoming Eid al Fitr.
As of March 24, the imports included 29,092 head of cattle and 399,357 sheep and goats, according to the ministry.
To ensure a steady supply, the ministry is coordinating with livestock import companies and simplified procedures to facilitate imports. The number of permits has reached 129.
Meanwhile, veterinary staff at the Veterinary Quarantine Department are implementing health measures on all imported animals. These measures serve as the first line of defence against the spread of diseases into the sultanate.
