Muscat – Oman’s egg production reached 599.76mn in 2024, according to data from National Centre for Statistics and Information. This marks a 2% increase compared to 2023, reflecting steady growth in the country’s poultry sector.
The surge in egg production is part of the sultanate’s broader strategy to enhance food security and boost domestic production. Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources attributed the growth to strategic planning and adoption of modern technologies across the agricultural, fisheries and water resources sectors.
Food production increased 3.9mn tonnes to 4.7mn tonnes from 2019 to 2022, an average growth rate of 6.4%. The total value of food production rose 9.6%, from RO958mn to RO1.261bn during the same period.
In terms of self-sufficiency, Oman has made impressive strides. Self-sufficiency in grains stands at 151%, while dates are at 97% and fresh milk at 88%. Additionally, self-sufficiency in vegetables is 77%, poultry 61%, table eggs 59%, meat 44% and fruits 26%.
