Community-backed Wadi Baiha Dam in Dhahirah now operational

Yanqul – The construction of the Wadi Baiha Dam in the Wilayat of Yanqul, Dhahirah governorate, has been successfully completed. The dam, which was built through community efforts and under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, was constructed at a cost of approximately OR 60,000.

According to Salim bin Hamid al Badi, the supervisor of the project, the dam measures 53 metres in length and 11 metres in height, with a storage capacity of around 33,000 gallons. The construction process, which took 235 days, utilised reinforced concrete materials, stones, filters, and other materials.

Badi highlighted that the dam was built to the highest standards for dam construction in the Sultanate of Oman. The Dams Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources oversaw the design, implementation, and fieldwork throughout all phases of the project, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and procedures.

The Wadi Baiha Dam is set to provide essential water supply to a number of local villages, including Bayhaa, Waqba, and other nearby areas. Once filled with water, the dam is also expected to enhance the region’s appeal as a tourist destination. Located in a well-known tourist area, it is anticipated that the dam will attract adventure lovers, mountaineers, and nature enthusiasts, further boosting local tourism and contributing to the economy.
