Cairo, Egypt – Oman has reaffirmed its support for the Arab League as a ‘unifying platform’ for Arab nations and called for strengthening its mechanisms to better address regional and international challenges.

H E Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to Arab League, made the remarks on the occasion of the regional body’s 80th anniversary on Saturday.

He stated that the league’s role is more critical than ever as the Arab world faces major challenges requiring collective action. “Oman remains committed to supporting the league, believing that Arab solidarity is the only path to stability and development in the region.”

On the ongoing discussions about reforming joint Arab action, H E Rahbi stressed that any process of development must be “comprehensive and gradual, with a clear will among member states to ensure its success”.

Despite its challenges, he said, the league remains vital in strengthening Arab unity, particularly in addressing security, economic and social concerns.
