Muscat – Muscat Governor’s Office has launched a multilingual awareness campaign titled ‘Take just what you need’ to promote food conservation and reduce waste. The initiative aims to encourage people to buy or prepare only the amount of food they need, minimising excess food going to landfills.

Authorities highlighted the environmental impact of food waste, stating that large quantities of discarded food not only end up in landfills but also decompose, emitting odours that inconvenience nearby residents and attract insects and mosquitoes. ‘Food waste increases workload for cleaners and requires additional resources to manage waste disposal and pollution,’ the office stated.

The campaign seeks to spread key messages on responsible consumption, including gratitude for food, valuing resources and supporting those in need instead of wasting. ‘Through these initiatives, Muscat Governorate hopes to promote a sense of responsibility within the community and encourage appreciation for the blessings we have,’ it added.
