Yanqul – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has launched a campaign to combat the red palm weevil, a serious threat to agricultural crops, in Dhahirah governorate.

According to a statement from the ministry, the Department of Agricultural Resources and Water Resources in the wilayat of Yanqul, launched the five-day campaign on March 16 in six villages covering close to 50 hectares of land.

As part of this campaign, the team is conducting surveys in date palm fields to identify infestations, with treatment applied to lightly affected palms and removal of severely infested trees.

Additionally, awareness sessions are being organised to educate local communities about the risks posed by the red palm weevil.
