This statement came on International Women’s Day, despite widespread global condemnation of the Taliban’s policies.

The UN continues to denounce restrictions imposed on women, including bans on education, employment, and public visibility. The UN’s special representative called for solidarity with Afghan women, while the Taliban justified their actions based on Afghan cultural norms. The group’s stance has led to ongoing international isolation and no official recognition of their government.
