Suhar, North Batinah – An Indian national, Mohammed Faras, has been sentenced to two years in prison and permanent deportation after causing a fatal crash by driving on the wrong side of the road in the Wilayat of Liwa. The incident resulted in the deaths of four people and left 15 others injured.
The Primary Court found Faras guilty of reckless driving at high speed, endangering lives and property, and deliberately driving against traffic on a divided road. He was sentenced to two years for the first offence and three months for the second, to be served concurrently, with the longer sentence taking precedence. In addition, his driving licence has been revoked for one year, and the court has ordered the publication of the verdict in both Arabic and Hindi.
The Public Prosecution revealed that Faras drove his vehicle against the flow of traffic, colliding with multiple vehicles, leading to the tragic casualties. He has also been ordered to cover legal expenses.
Authorities have warned motorists of the severe consequences of reckless driving, urging strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
