Muscat – The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) hosted the Omani-African Business Forum on Monday, bringing together business leaders from Oman and several African countries to strengthen trade and investment ties.

The event, attended by Sheikh Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI’s Board of Directors, along with board members and business owners, aimed to enhance economic cooperation and identify new business opportunities. A total of 40 companies from nine African nations participated, representing sectors such as food security, logistics, energy, finance, construction, education, and fisheries.

Discussions focused on leveraging the strategic position of Oman and Africa, particularly the Horn of Africa and South and East Africa, to facilitate global trade. The region’s proximity to key shipping routes complements Oman’s location, making it a vital link in the movement of African products and services to international markets.

Rawas described Africa as a promising market with vast natural resources and strong consumer demand. He noted that Oman and Africa share deep historical and commercial ties, which provide a solid foundation for expanding trade and investment exchanges.

“The chamber is committed to supporting Oman Vision 2040 by enhancing global competitiveness and exploring high-potential sectors.”

Zainab Salem al Hashimi from OCCI outlined the chamber’s efforts to support private sector growth, highlighting key Omani exports and priority sectors such as energy, minerals, renewable energy, agriculture, and logistics. She also provided insights into Oman’s trade relations with African nations.

Aisha al Hadabi from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion presented the Invest in Oman initiative, showcasing the country’s investment incentives, financing mechanisms and legislative framework. She emphasised Oman’s role as a strategic investment hub and its focus on economic diversification.

The forum also facilitated direct business meetings, allowing Omani and African business owners to explore potential partnerships and expand trade relations.
