Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has invited citizens and residents to visit Wakan Village in South Batinah to witness the beauty of the apricot blossom season, which runs from mid-February to March.
This period offers visitors a chance to experience the village at its most vibrant, with apricot trees in full bloom.
Apricot flowers mark the start of the season, followed by a two-week harvest period. Fresh apricots are sold at Nakhal souq and other local markets in South Batinah.
In a statement, the ministry said that Wakan Village, now in full bloom, provides visitors with a unique opportunity to capture the scenic beauty and enjoy its serene atmosphere.
Wakan Village has gained increasing popularity as a tourist destination, welcoming over 32,000 visitors in 2023 from diverse nationalities. Known for its cool climate, similar to that of Jabal Akhdar, and stunning mountain landscapes, the village remains favourite for domestic and international tourists, particularly during the winter months.
The village is home to a variety of seasonal crops, including grapes, garlic, pomegranates, figs, bergamot oranges, peaches, and berries. Its agricultural bounty is sustained by the Falaj al Aqar, Falaj al Mafra, and Falaj al Wasta’a irrigation systems, which originate from the surrounding mountain tops.
Nearby Wadi Mistal, in the wilayat of Nakhal, also attracts visitors with its lush green oases and abundant agricultural produce, including apricots and mountain berries. Villages such as Al Qoura, Al Hajjar, Misfat Al Qoura, Al Shis, and Al Aqar contribute to the region’s agricultural charm and are popular among tourists seeking authentic rural experiences.
With its cool weather, breathtaking natural beauty, and vibrant agricultural life, Wakan Village is one of Oman’s must-visit destinations.
