CPA ensures availability of ‘Ramadan Baskets’ across Oman

12 Feb 2025

Muscat – As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) is intensifying market inspections to ensure the availability of Ramadan baskets in shopping centres across various governorates of Oman.

The ‘Ramadan Family Pack’ initiative, offered by major retailers such as Sultan and LuLu, includes essential food items at controlled prices, ensuring affordability for consumers. The Sultan Ramadan basket features staple goods such as Lahore Basmati rice, Areej cooking oil, tomato paste, coffee, flour, and sugar, with adjusted prices to provide cost savings during Ramadan. Similarly, LuLu’s Ramadan Family Pack includes locally sourced products such as Omani sugar, milk powder, tomato paste, frying oil, flour, and pulses, alongside select imported items.

The CPA’s proactive approach aims to stabilise prices and prevent market exploitation while ensuring consumers have access to essential products at fair rates. With inspections underway, the authority reassures the public of sufficient stock across major retailers, reinforcing its commitment to consumer welfare during the fasting month.
