Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) is ramping up efforts to position Dhofar as a year-round tourist destination, targeting new markets to boost visitor numbers to Oman’s southern region.
As part of this initiative, the ministry, in collaboration with the Visit Oman platform, organised a familiarisation tour for representatives of leading tourism offices from Germany and Switzerland.
The tour, held from February 7 to 11, showcased Dhofar’s rich historical and natural attractions alongside its top-class services and facilities.
The visiting delegation explored key tourism sites to gain insights for creating travel packages that highlight the region’s unique appeal.
Dhofar boasts a range of natural reserves, including the Jabal Samhan Reserve, the Wadi Dawkah Reserve known for its frankincense trees, and the Khor Rori Reserve. Visitors can also explore Unesco World Heritage Sites such as Al Baleed, Samharam, and Al Shisr, along with the Museum of the Land of Frankincense.
The region’s historical landmarks, including forts in Taqah, Mirbat, and Sadah, add to its cultural allure.
MHT noted that a series of diverse tourism events and activities have been planned for the coming months to further promote Dhofar as a key destination for international travellers.
