Muscat – In a remarkable achievement showcasing Omani excellence on the international stage, Dr Badriya bint Khalfan al Hadabi has been elected as the vice president of the International Federation of Physical and Sport Education (FIEPS) Middle East for the term 2025–28.
This milestone was achieved during the 34th FIEPS World Congress, held in Brazil, turning a new leaf in Oman’s contributions to the development of physical education and sports both regionally and globally.
Founded in 1923 in Brussels, Belgium, FIEPS grew to become a leading international non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting physical education and sports worldwide.
With its headquarters now based in Brazil, the Federation operates in over 142 countries, working through a comprehensive structure that includes the General Assembly, Executive Committee, Continental and Technical Committees, and National Representatives.
FIEPS collaborates closely with global organisations such as Unesco and the International Olympic Committee, focusing on promoting physical education in schools, universities, and communities, supporting academic research, and fostering international cooperation.
Dr Badriya has been a prominent figure in Oman’s sports landscape, serving as a National Delegate for FIEPS since 2015. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing numerous initiatives aimed at developing physical education across the Middle East. Her election reflects not only her expertise and dedication but also Oman’s growing influence in international sports governance.
Expressing her gratitude, Dr Badriya stated, “This role is both an honour and a significant responsibility. It offers a valuable platform to strengthen collaboration among Middle Eastern countries in physical education and sports.”
She emphasised the importance of developing innovative training programmes, promoting research, and organising events that align with FIEPS’s mission.
‘Her appointment is expected to reinforce Oman’s presence in global sports forums, contribute to the enhancement of physical education standards in the region, and inspire future leaders in the field. This achievement highlights Oman’s continued progress and commitment to excellence on the international stage,’ stated a press release.
