Muscat – Ilaf Qabil al Zadjali bagged the gold medal in the Omani Girls’ Endurance Race held at the Endurance Village in Barka.
The event, which concluded on Friday, was attended by Sayyida Sanaa Hamad al Busaidi, Chairperson of the Oman Women Sports Gender Equality Committee at the Olympic Committee.
The 100km endurance race, divided into three stages, saw 30 female riders competing. A 40km qualifying race was also part of the event. Before the race, all horses underwent veterinary checks to ensure their safety and readiness.
Ilaf Qabil al Zadjali finished first, securing the gold medal, followed by Furat Abdul Rahim al Zadjali, who won silver, and Qunout Najib al Attar for the bronze.
The three-stage race featured two 35km segments marked in yellow and a final 30km stage marked in blue.
The Oman Equestrian Federation also set specific conditions, including that participating horses must be at least six years old and registered with the federation.
Sayyida Sanaa Hamad al Busaidi, who crowned the winners, expressed her pride in the achievements of Omani women in sports.
“Omani women, thank God, enjoy great attention from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in all fields, especially sports. This underscores the importance of their role in society,” she noted.
“I am proud to attend the 100km girls’ endurance race, with 30 female riders participating. This event reinforces the role of Omani women in sports, empowering them to compete in global and international competitions,” she further said.
“We are proud of the female riders who won today, and we look forward to their success on the world stage.”
The competition, organised in collaboration with the Gender Equality Committee in Omani Women’s Sports, highlighted the growing role of women in endurance sports, paving the way for greater participation in national and international events.
