Salalah – Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) signed an agreement last week to build the Raysut-Mughsail dual carriageway at an estimated cost of RO35mn. The project aims to improve connectivity and boost economic activity in Dhofar.
An agreement was also signed with Future Innovation Company to develop a smart recruitment platform using artificial intelligence. The platform will be designed to streamline hiring processes, reduce sorting time and improve transparency in competency selection.
The agreement for the road project was signed by H E Khamis bin Mohammed al Shammakhi, Undersecretary for Transport at MTCIT, and Saeed bin Muslim al Kathiri, Chairman of Oman Construction Company. Dr Mishaal bint Awad Mohammed al Sayari, CEO of Future Innovation Company, signed for the recruitment platform agreement.
The signing ceremony was attended by H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and H E Saeed bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
Highlighting the project’s significance for Dhofar’s economic and social development, H H Sayyid Marwan said, “It will enhance the economic role of Salalah Port and the Free Zone by improving logistics services and attracting investment.” He added that the new road would also improve access to key tourist destinations such as Mughsail Beach, creating new opportunities for tourism growth.
The dual carriageway will pass through key areas of Salalah, as well as the wilayats of Rakhyut and Dhalkut, improving connectivity and accessibility while creating further opportunities for tourism development.
H E Shammakhi informed that the Raysut–Mughsail road project consists of a 33km dual carriageway, which will include six overpasses, underpasses, animal crossings and roundabouts. The new road will also connect with 18th November Road, extending 5.5km to Salalah Centre and the Sarfait border crossing with Yemen. This integration is expected to improve traffic flow, increase road safety, and enhance the overall infrastructure of the governorate.
“The project will play a crucial role in enhancing road safety and easing traffic congestion, as it integrates the Mughsail Road and Bridge Project,” H E Shammakhi added.
This major infrastructure investment is expected to have a lasting impact on Dhofar’s economic development, improving regional logistics and accessibility for residents, businesses and tourists alike.
