Second largest beach clean-up campaign launched on Masirah Island

26 Jan 2025

On the sands of Masirah Island, renowned for its endangered turtle nesting sites and rich biodiversity, the second largest beach clean-up campaign was launched, bringing together 300 volunteers from across the Sultanate of Oman.

Participants gathered to support the conservation of the island’s natural heritage and protect its delicate ecosystem. Masirah is a critical nesting site for the endangered green and loggerhead turtles, which return year after year to lay their eggs on the island’s shores.

This community-driven initiative underlines the importance of environmental responsibility, emphasising that the preservation of such unique habitats is a shared duty. Volunteers took to the island’s beaches to remove waste and debris, ensuring a safer environment for wildlife and promoting sustainability.
