Trump lifts Biden-era sanctions on Israeli settlers accused of violence

21 Jan 2025

Washington DC, USA – US President Donald Trump has cancelled sanctions imposed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, on Israeli settlers accused of committing acts of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. According to early media reports, Trump signed the decree revoking the sanctions today.

Israeli Ambassador to Washington, Mike Herzog, had previously stated that Trump was expected to lift the measures within days.

The Biden administration had introduced the sanctions in August 2024 as part of efforts to curb rising violence by extremist settlers, many of whom receive funding from the Israeli government.

Trump’s decision marks a significant shift in US policy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, further reinforcing his administration’s close ties with Israel.
