Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Foreign Ministry, took part in the expanded Arab meeting in Riyadh to discuss efforts aimed at achieving stability in Syria and supporting political resolutions to the ongoing crisis.
His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, led Oman’s delegation to the meeting, underscoring the importance of restoring Syria to its natural position within Arab, regional, and international spheres.
In his address, H E Sayyid Badr highlighted the necessity of joint action to support the aspirations of the Syrian people, fostering a future built on security, unity, development, and reconstruction. He also emphasised the need for lifting international economic sanctions on Syria to pave the way for recovery.
His Excellency called on the United Nations and the Security Council to uphold their responsibilities, urging them to take decisive measures to ensure Israel’s withdrawal from Mount Hermon, Quneitra Governorate, and all occupied Syrian territories, in accordance with the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Speaking further on the expanded ministerial meeting on Syria, H E Sayyid Badr said, “We are united in our commitment to supporting Syria’s political transition, reconstruction, and economic recovery, while safeguarding its sovereignty, unity, and the aspirations of its people for a stable and prosperous future.”
The meeting was attended by foreign ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, alongside ministers from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt. The discussions focused on regional and international cooperation to enhance Syria’s political transition, achieve security and stability, and promote economic recovery and reconstruction.
A separate international ministerial meeting on Syria was also held in Riyadh, which Oman attended. This gathering sought to strengthen regional and international coordination in supporting Syria’s reconstruction and safeguarding its territorial unity and sovereignty. Participants included foreign ministers from GCC countries, representatives from friendly nations, the United Nations envoy to Syria, and the European Union’s representative.
