Muscat – Central Blood Bank in Bausher witnessed a 4% increase in blood donations in 2024, collecting 43,122 blood units and 2,636 blood component units. The announcement was made by Department of Blood Bank Services (DBBS), which extended its gratitude to donors, calling them ‘the heartbeat of so many lives’.
According to DBBS, 46% of the donors in 2024 were first-time contributors, with Omani nationals accounting for 77% of the total donations. Notably, 98% of all donations were voluntary, reflecting a culture of altruism in the community.
DBBS urged citizens and residents to sustain this life-saving effort by donating blood every three months to support the growing demand for blood.
There were a total of 381 blood donation campaigns in 2024, an increase mirroring the steady rise in donations over the years. Statistics show collection of 28,613 units in 2020, 32,741 units in 2021, 39,712 units in 2022, 41,139 units in 2023, and 43,122 units in 2024.
A representative of Central Blood Bank emphasised the critical role of regular donations in maintaining blood stocks. “Continuous blood and blood component donations are essential to meet the increasing needs of Oman’s expanding healthcare services,” the official said. Central Blood Bank in Bausher is open for donations from Saturday to Thursday, between 8am and 8pm, and on Fridays from 8am to 2pm. With the growing demand for blood to support healthcare services across the country, authorities encourage everyone eligible to contribute to this vital cause.
