Over 3,600 participants explore Nizwa’s rich heritage in tourist walk

Nizwa – The Tourism Committee of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in Dakhiliyah governorate successfully organised a tourist walk in the Wilayat of Nizwa, drawing over 3,600 participants eager to explore the region’s historical and cultural landmarks.

Held on Saturday, the event attracted participants of all ages and nationalities. Under the patronage of H E Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, the walk commenced from the historic Nizwa Souq parking area. Participants traversed the scenic ‘White Valley’ and ventured through the ancient neighbourhood of ‘Harat al Suwaiq’, renowned for its narrow alleys and historic architecture.

The route showcased several archaeological and historical sites, including ‘Bait Sulait Fort’ , the ‘Al Madah’ neighbourhood, and the UNESCO-listed ‘Daris Falaj’. Rest stops in ‘Wadi Kalbuh’ featured presentations on the cultural and historical significance of the landmarks.

Khalfan bin Hamad al Zaidi, Chairman of Nizwa Club and supervisor of the event, confirmed a total of 3,607 participants, including 250 individuals who joined after registration closed. He highlighted the event’s primary objective of promoting Nizwa’s rich heritage, unique tourism attractions, and historical sites, which hold great cultural importance.

Al Zaidi further announced plans for a second tourist walk scheduled for November 2025, expressing hope that the event would see even greater success and wider participation from both citizens and residents.
