Oman march into Gulf Cup semifinals

Kuwait City – Oman marched into the semifinals of the 2024 Gulf Cup as Group A winners after playing out a 1-1 draw against United Arab Emirates on Friday.

Oman, who started with a 1-1 draw against Kuwait, stunned Asian champions Qatar 2-1 in their second encounter to finish their group campaign on five points.

UAE, needing a win to book a spot in the semi-finals, took the lead through Yahya Al Ghassani in the 20th minute.

Abdulrahman Al Mushafri drew Oman level in the 79th minute with Fabio Lima’s missed penalty deep into stoppage time costing UAE dearly.

Kuwait also have five points following their 1-1 draw against Qatar on Friday, but they had to settle for second place because of their inferior goal difference.

Mohammad Daham gave Kuwait the lead in the 74th minute with Qatar drawing level through Mohammed Muntari in the 11th minute of time added on at the end of the second half.
