Muscat – British adventurer Mitchell aka Mitch made a brief stopover in Oman recently during what he describes as the “longest triathlon”.
At 16, Mitch became the youngest Briton to conquer Mt Kilimanjaro. Now, nearly 15 years later, he’s continuing to push the limits, embarking on a 15,000km adventure from Dover in England to the Himalayas.
His recent pit stop in Muscat marked a pivotal moment in his eight-month journey – called Limitless – spanning land, sea and air. Alongside his companion Ben Cook, Mitch spent some time in Oman, captivated by the sultanate’s charm while awaiting transit to Pakistan or India.
“Oman’s stunning landscapes and warm hospitality has a lasting impression. This adventure has been a lifelong ambition – not just for personal achievement but to inspire others to embrace sport. Limitless aims to motivate millions, proving that perseverance can break barriers,” Mitch said.
Cycling from the UAE into Oman gave him a “surge of energy” as he marvelled at the breathtaking scenery and the kindness of the people he met.
The adventure, backed by global supporters and friends, is likely the first triathlon to the Everest – a journey blending endurance, grit and community spirit. Mitch is accompanied by filmmakers Stan Gaskell and Molly McDonald who are documenting the journey.
The first phase of the adventure began with a grueling 34km swim across the English Channel in collaboration with SAVSIM, a London-based nonprofit working for war veterans and PTSD patients. The ongoing second phase sees Mitch cycle 10,000km across 12 countries, accompanied for part of the journey by his golden retriever, Buddy. Phase 3 will involve conquering the Himalayas.
Mitch will soon commence a 900km run from India to Nepal, followed by a 350km trek to the Everest base camp.
“Limitless transcends personal ambition,” he reiterated. “It’s a message to the world – with the right mindset, the impossible becomes achievable.”
