Persian translation of ‘Waves of Raysut’ showcases Omani culture

Tehran, Iran – The Persian translation of Waves of Raysut, a short story collection by Omani writer Ishraq bint Abdullah al Nahdiya, marks an important milestone in the recognition of Omani literature internationally. Published by Iham Publishing House in Tehran, the work was translated by Dr. Ahmed al Jabri and Dr. Nisreen Kabanji, who preserved the rich cultural essence and narrative style that defines Nahdiya’s storytelling.

Exploring Omani culture through fiction

The collection reflects the heart of Omani culture, intertwining colloquial dialect, local traditions, and vivid depictions of everyday life. Through her stories, Nahdiya offers readers a window into Oman’s popular environment, blending humor, nostalgia, and realism. Her portrayal of characters often features caricature-like exaggerations that highlight paradoxes, making her narratives both relatable and engaging.

Tunisian critic Boubaker Mohamed El Mabrouk praised the collection for its originality and narrative ingenuity, noting its emphasis on local dialects, women’s adornments, and the intricate research evident in the storytelling. Egyptian critic Muhammad Naji al Minshawi highlighted the precision in the title story, The Waves of Raysut, emphasising its narrative cohesion and the evocative use of language to reflect Omani customs and environment.
This Persian translation further enhances the global appreciation of her work, introducing her unique narrative style and cultural themes to a wider audience.
