Muscat – Three Omanis have completed a 2,000km trek across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries aiming to revive the traditions of their ancestors while spreading a message of peace and love.
The three included Abdul Rahim Abdullah al Rawahi and Abdullah Salim al Rawahi from Mudhaibi, North Sharqiyah and Salim Abdullah al Saidi from Saham, North Batinah.
Speaking to Muscat Daily from Kuwait, Abdul Rahim informed that the 56-day trek began on October 21, 2024 in South Batinah. The three reached Buraimi after eight days, where they were warmly received by the Buraimi Travellers Team, who joined them for a 15km stretch.
Their journey continued into the United Arab Emirates, lasting 13 days, where they connected with locals and visited sites like the Legends Sports Academy in Bani Yas. From there, they crossed into Saudi Arabia, traversing its vast desert in three days before arriving in Qatar.
In Qatar, the group participated in Oman’s 54th National Day celebrations and explored local markets and landmarks. They then trekked five days to reach Bahrain, where they visited heritage sites, including ancient markets, the National Museum and Muharraq Market.
The 2,000km trek concluded in Kuwait on December 15, where the group visited Jaber al Ahmad Stadium, venue of the opening match of the 26th Gulf Cup which will start on December 21.
Explaining the objectives of their trek, Abdul Rahim stated, “Our aim was to appreciate the blessings of security and safety we enjoy in the Gulf countries and to promote peace and love. We also wanted to support the Gulf football teams participating in the 26th Gulf Cup, especially the Omani national team, while encouraging the culture of walking to honour our ancestors’ legacy.”
The trio faced several challenges, including poor Internet connectivity in remote areas, harsh winds and cold weather, which they overcame with determination. Carrying canned food and drinks and camping gear, they rested and camped along the way, marvelling at the natural beauty of the region.
Looking ahead, Abdul Rahim said the three intend to continue promoting sports and healthy practices by undertaking similar adventures in other countries.
