Muscat – The first-ever ‘Dakhliyah Award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation’ was announced on Tuesday during a ceremony held at Oman Across Ages Museum.

Organised in collaboration with various government and private entities, the initiative targets small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and individuals, aiming to cultivate a culture of entrepreneurship while creating an environment that promotes excellence, creativity and innovation.

Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, emphasised the award’s importance in supporting entrepreneurs and innovators, recognising the governorate’s vibrant entrepreneurial community spanning diverse fields.

“This inaugural edition carries significant hopes and is expected to achieve multiple objectives,” he stated.

The governor informed that ideas submitted for the award will contribute to its evolution in the coming years; realising the award’s goals will enhance innovation, bolster the entrepreneurial sector in Dakhliyah, stimulate the local economy, and meet aspirations of entrepreneurs.

Khadija Saeed al Khayari, Director of the Office for Monitoring and Implementation of Oman Vision 2040 in Dakhliyah, outlined the award’s aim to create a nurturing environment for innovation. She explained that the award will provide participants the tools to turn ideas into successful projects, strengthening the local economy and paving the way for sustainable development in the governorate.

The award will progress through six stages, starting with its launch and concluding with a comprehensive support programme for participants.

It will feature 14 categories, including ten tailored for institutions, entrepreneurs and students. These categories are Best Entrepreneur, Best Female Entrepreneur, Best Small Enterprise, Best Medium Enterprise, Best Small Enterprise in  Agricultural Sector, Best Small Enterprise in Tourism Sector, Best Small Enterprise in Industrial Sector, Best Small Enterprise in Service Sector, Best School Student Company and Best University Student Company.

Four additional categories will recognise supporters of entrepreneurship, including Best Funding and Support Entity from Government Sector, Best Supportive Entity from Private Sector, and Best Non-Profit Civil Sector Institution.
