Muscat – Ministry of Labour (MoL), in collaboration with Arab League affiliate Arab Organization for Administrative Development, inaugurated a conference titled ‘Sustainability and Government Work: Governments’ Readiness to Achieve Sustainable Development’ on Monday in Muscat to explore the best policies and strategies to support the achievement of sustainable development goals.
The two-day conference aims to strengthen cooperation, facilitate exchange of experiences, and identify opportunities to build a more sustainable and prosperous future, while focusing on enhancing the readiness of governments in Arab countries to achieve development and promote sustainability.
The conference opened under the patronage of H E Dr Mahad bin Ali Baowain, Minister of Labour.
In an address, H E Sayyid Salim bin Muslim al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Human Resources Development in MoL, emphasised the fact that sustainability in government work is one of the most significant challenges facing countries worldwide, particularly in light of the growing population, rapid economic changes and the emergence of new work patterns.
He noted that these challenges require increased investments, human competencies, and the development of scientific and practical skills to improve economic conditions and provide decent, sustainable employment in line with sustainable development goals.
