New Delhi, India – Panic gripped the Indian capital on Monday as 40 prominent schools, including DPS RK Puram, GD Goenka, the British School, and the Mother’s International, were evacuated following emailed bomb threats.
The emails, reportedly sent en masse from a Gmail account on Sunday, claimed that multiple bombs had been planted at the institutions and demanded a ransom of USD $30,000 to prevent their detonation. Authorities, including Delhi police, bomb disposal squads, and the fire department, launched immediate searches but found no evidence of explosives at any location by Monday afternoon.
Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi Singh criticised the central government, citing a deteriorating law-and-order situation in the capital. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Singh stated, “Threats of bombing schools are now being received. The BJP-ruled central government has failed in its only task of providing security to the people of Delhi.”
The threatening email reportedly claimed the bombs were small, well-hidden, and intended to injure rather than cause significant structural damage. It also attributed the threat to a group identified as ‘KNR.’
While the situation caused significant disruption and concern, authorities have yet to confirm whether the threat was genuine. Investigations remain ongoing.
