Jeddah Al Harasis, Al Wusta – The Environment Authority (EA) has celebrated a significant milestone with the success of the Arabian Oryx Re-release Programme in Jeddah Al Harasis, Al Wusta Governorate. This achievement marks a key moment in wildlife conservation efforts, showcasing successful births of Arabian Oryx in the wild, which is a positive indicator of the species’ adaptation to their natural habitat.
The continued efforts to rehabilitate and release the Arabian Oryx into the wild have proven effective, providing hope for the species’ sustainable recovery. Alongside the Arabian Oryx, other endangered species such as the Arabian gazelle and sand gazelle are also being monitored and protected within the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, which plays a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and supporting desert ecosystems.
Since its launch in 2020, the wild animal release program has contributed significantly to ecological balance, regulating plant growth, and stabilizing the vegetation cover in the region. Furthermore, the program promotes ecotourism, community involvement, and environmental education, all of which help raise awareness and foster a sustainable relationship with nature.
The Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, spanning 2,824 square kilometers, is not only a center for wildlife conservation but also a hub for economic development. It supports various conservation projects, including the planting of 80,000 wild trees to enhance vegetation cover and rehabilitate natural habitats. The development of infrastructure within the sanctuary is expected to attract more visitors and improve the sanctuary’s ability to protect endangered species, while also promoting sustainable economic growth in the region.
