Muscat – Muscat Municipality has addressed concerns raised by a citizen regarding the management of approvals for bicycle and electric scooter rental activities. The municipality clarified that, in line with established laws and competitive principles, it initially issued public tenders for the activity. Based on eligibility, two companies were awarded the contract to manage the rentals at that time.

The municipality also intended to expand the scope of the rental service. However, it encountered several challenges, including the lack of suitable paths for such activities and a significant number of complaints from the public regarding the impact on comfort, particularly at beaches and other popular locations where the service is practised.

In response to the citizen’s concerns, Muscat Municipality arranged a meeting and proposed an alternative location at Manouma Beach for the rental service. However, the citizen expressed disagreement with this suggestion. The municipality remains committed to ensuring that the activity aligns with public interests and safety standards.
