Muscat – In an effort to bolster the Omani film industry and find local talent, Oman Film Society (OFS) – through its Training and Development Committee – is holding a workshop titled ‘Muscat Inspires Us’ running till November 5.
Dr Janan bint Mahdi al Issa, Deputy Director of the committee, stated that the workshop aims to promote the Governorate of Muscat by encouraging creative ideas inspired by its rich history and culture. “It seeks to highlight the tourism and development aspects of the governorate, discover new talent and convey inspiring stories from Oman to the big screen, while also supporting members of the association and professionals in the Omani film industry.”
Janan added that it is important to present creative content in the form of short films that reflect the achievements of Muscat. The workshop will focus on ensuring high-quality photography, sound, editing and overall professionalism in the filmmaking process.
OFS is committed to providing specialised programmes and workshops that guide participants from concept development to final production, she informed.
The workshop is designed to enhance the skills of members and support the creation of short films for participation in local and international festivals and competitions, thereby enriching the cinema industry in Oman.
Additionally, the workshop will feature a dialogue session with artist and director Mahmoud bin Obaid al Hosni titled ‘A Muscat Story’. The session will explore the beauty and vibrancy of Muscat governorate, discussing its historical significance, cultural identity, and the interplay of past and present. Filmmakers are expected to engage actively, drawing inspiration for new cinematic stories from the dialogue.
