Municipality to undertake safety audit of Amerat-Bausher Road

21 Oct 2024 Municipality to undertake safety audit of Amerat-Bausher Road By

Muscat – Muscat Municipality has floated a tender for consultancy services to conduct a comprehensive road safety audit of Amerat-Bausher Road, addressing persistent safety concerns that have plagued the mountain pass, especially during heavy rains.

The road safety audit is expected to provide an in-depth study and help implement advanced traffic safety measures, improve road geometry and surface drainage, and incorporate  effective traffic control devices.

The audit is crucial considering the road is frequently damaged during inclement weather, leading to temporary closure for safety reasons. Commuters have expressed frustration over this recurring problem and called for a permanent solution, such as construction of a tunnel to connect the two wilayats of Amerat and Bausher.

Royal Oman Police has been proactive in ensuring safety by closing the road during adverse weather conditions and following accidents. However, these closures lead to significant traffic congestion on alternative routes, including Amerat-Wadi Adai Road, highlighting the urgent need for an effective solution. The tender, categorised under urban engineering and civil engineering consultancy, aims to attract first- and second-grade vendors to propose strategies that will enhance road safety and improve overall traffic management. Tender documents can be purchased until November 7, with bids due by November 26.
