Muscat – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has floated a tender for the management and operations of Barka Castle in South Batinah.

The strategic location of the governorate along the Sea of Oman and its significant population make it a key area in Oman’s overall development process.

A prominent tourist attraction, Barka Castle was constructed in the mid-17th century during the reigns of Saif bin Sultan al Yarubi and Hamad bin Saeed al Busaidi. Bait al Nuaman Fort, another historical landmark in Barka, also dates back to the 17th century.

‘The ministry is looking for partnerships with private sector companies for the development and management of the heritage site,’ MHT said in a statement.

The ministry informed that participating companies should submit a study that includes ways to market the site commercially and culturally, suggest ideas for cultural workshops and artistic events, and activities to revive the heritage site.

Participating companies must also highlight the architectural uniqueness of the castle and involve the local community in cultural and social events, the ministry added. Deadline for submission of bids is December 19.
