Muscat – Oman national football team coach Rashid Jaber has expressed confidence as his side prepares to face Jordan in a crucial match on Tuesday. The game, part of the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, will be played at Amman International Stadium at 8pm (Oman time).
Currently placed fourth in Group 2 with three points, Oman is aiming for a much-needed victory to bring its total to six. The team has had a mixed run in the qualifiers so far, with a win against Kuwait but losses to Iraq and group leaders South Korea, who sit at the top with seven points.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Jaber stressed the significance of the match, describing it as “crucial and challenging”.
He said, “We continue our preparations for this important match against a well-organised team with strong defence skills and talented players. We hope to secure a positive result.”
Jaber acknowledged the competitive nature of the match, noting that Jordan is skilled in counterattacks and has a solid defence. “Mental presence is vital for this match, and we approach each game with a positive mindset.” He also pointed out the fact that Jordan, coming off a recent loss to South Korea, will be motivated to perform well in front of a home crowd.
Jaber is optimistic about his team’s chances, emphasising that there are still plenty of opportunities to secure points. “In every qualifier, there are ten matches with 30 points available, and there is ample opportunity for competition,” he said.
Oman defender Ali al Busaidi also expressed confidence in the team’s readiness. “The team is fully prepared to face this challenge. The Jordanian team is impressive, and its performance continues to improve. But with God’s help, we aim to achieve a positive result,” he said.
Stressing the importance of individual preparedness, Busaidi said, “Every player must be ready for any circumstances, and we all understand the weight of this responsibility.”
