Muscat – North Batinah Municipality has completed the first phase of the Al Husn area development project in Khabourah. It aims to safeguard the coastal strip, which has been vulnerable to waves and environmental factors.
Ilham Hilal al Salmiya, project supervisor, reported that this initial phase involved construction of a 430m protection wall. This wall is designed to shield key facilities along the coast, including a fish market, shops and Al Khabourah Fort. Additionally, the project includes construction of a service road.
Ilham informed that the wall extends beyond structural protection; it has been reinforced with large rocks weighing between 500kg and 1,500kg. This enhancement not only improves the wall’s effectiveness but also adds an aesthetic element that complements the surrounding coastal environment.
Ilham added that this phase of the project included a 3.5m wide walkway along the wall featuring high-quality interlocking tiles. This open space is designed for residents and visitors to engage in sports and recreational activities, adding a social and tourism dimension to the area. Additionally, damaged roads spanning 430m were restored in this phase.
According to Ilham, the project marks the beginning of a series of future initiatives aimed at developing and enhancing coastal areas, making these attractive destinations for citizens and visitors alike. Completion of the first phase serves as a foundation for the next, which will focus on expanding the project to encompass additional areas.
